It's November already! Where did the time go?! Things have been going great for "Alex and Tony Learn to be Gentlemen." All of the acceptance and positive feedback has been very encouraging. The second book is underway, and I'm working with the same great illustrator (Dia Reddo) as before.
A huge THANK YOU to those who've purchased this book and to those who plan on it. With Christmas "around the corner," I suggest purchasing a book as a gift or stocking stuffer! Video games are cool but let's continue to encourage child literacy by providing children with books.

The "Alex and Tony Learn to be Gentlemen" Book Launch (9/25/11) was extremely successful! To receive support from people and for them to react so favorably to this book makes me feel really good! The word SUPPORT is but seven letters but the impact is tremendous! **I want "Alex and Tony" to go global and printed in other languages! It's possible. **
Here I am below...
Here's Dia and I... (We were both really happy with the way that things went.)
The photographer for the event was great! I'll post the pictures that she took when I receive them.
The event received some exposure in the Mobile Press Register ! Below is a screen shot and the entire story can be read HERE!!

On Friday (September 23) I got a chance to visit two elementary schools in the Mobile, AL area. I got to interact with the children at both schools and they were extremely attentive and loved the story. The first school was Fonde Elementary School...
Here I am with a group of 3rd graders in the media center. They were really smart kids who engaged with me so nicely as I discussed the book and asked them questions.
Also listening to the story were the librarian, teacher, and principal! They were all so warm and receptive! Here I am below with the principal and students.
The next stop was Mertz Elementary School!!! I was actually a student there not that long ago - the school has made some awesome improvements and is nothing like when I was there, but I did let the kindergartens I visited know that we shared a special connection in that I too was a student there!
(Kindergarteners at Mertz Elem School)
I also visited the Southwest Alabama Regional School for the Deaf & Blind. Though I didn't read to the students I did get to visit several classes. ALL of the students at the three schools that I visited were wonderful and they all made my day .

Today I had the pleasure of discussing "Alex and Tony Learn to be Gentlemen" on a local tv station (Birmingham, AL---ABC 33/40) ! I was nervous and excited all at the same time - but I'm super happy for the opportunity that was given to me to reach even more people with what it is that I'm doing. **(OR Watch here for better quality)**

The book ("Alex and Tony Learn to be Gentlemen" which can be ordered here ) came earlier this week and both Dia and I received ours on the same day. I think using the word "excited" to describe how we both felt on that day is an understatement.
Here I am holding the book self-portrait style...
Here's Dia putting my self portrait to shame LOL.
SUPPORT, SUPPORT, SUPPORT!!! This book and others that are written but not yet published in the series, is needed!! Order a book and tell others about it as well!

I couldn't have asked for a smoother process in working with an illustrator. It was like some of my ideas were literally pulled from my mind and created for me to physically see. I have so much respect for the talent that Dia Reddo possesses. She has been instrumental in making such a big dream come true. She's beyond gifted!
Visit her website! And of course purchase "Alex and Tony Learn to be Gentlemen" to see her awesome illustrations.

It's always been a dream of mine to write books. I can remember stapling sheets of paper together as a child and creating stories or other creative writing works. As I got older, my childhood hobby never died, but took a backseat to "life"...school, work, parenthood! However, making time for what was once an enjoyable hobby always remained a priority.
I got the idea for Alex and Tony about a year ago. As a parent, I see a need for children to have more than entertaining books to read. Yes entertainment is good, but I saw a need to couple lesson learning literature along with the entertainment. Alex and Tony are inspired by my children who's middle names are Alexander (Alex) and Anthony (Tony). They, like my children, are curious twin boys who have a thirst for knowledge. In the first book, Alex and Tony Learn to be Gentlemen, the main characters learn from their father an extremely valuable lesson about what it means to be a gentleman. Because they admire their father and look up to him, they are determined to demonstrate gentleman-like behavior as they witness their father behave towards their mother. In the books to come, it will become more evident of the vital roles that Alex and Tony's parents play in their learning. You've heard the saying that "parents are the first teachers," right? Well these parents are definitely a great source of knowledge for their children.
This book is just the beginning of a series of "character books" for children. The series will cover topics that parents either struggle or neglect to discuss with their children. The plan is that it will open dialogue between children and adults about the things mentioned in the books. Hopefully, I can do good enough explaining some of these topics in the books and make the jobs of parents (guardians, teachers, etc) a little easier!
I'm excited about the present and future of Alex and Tony. Being published is really a dream come true. Expect more because it's definitely coming!
